Q&A

So sorry that I haven't posted in an eternity. That's what it feels like to me, at least. I have a few questions, so here it goes.

Anonymous said:

hey fashionista,
okay, a few questions..

so i'm trying to find a cute and affordable slouchy vest. something that serena would wear on gossip girl. can't find one anywhere! can you help?

also...i'm having trouble figuring out how to pair shorts, tights, leg warmers, and flats. which should go together? which pieces should be bright and which should be plain or dark?

Anonymous--

I also am a fan of the slouchy vest, and I found three nice ones.

Photobucket

Starting with this American Apparel vest that I put in a previous post. I love this- it's simple and so Serena.

Photobucket

This striped vest from Urban Outfitters isn't as Serena as I would hope, but it's still pretty good.

Photobucket

Also from Urban Outfitters. This cropped one is really versatile and would probably look much better in real life...

Now for the leg warmers dilemma. They're coming back from the 80's, and becoming much more popular. I think you could definitely pull off the shorts, tights, leg warmers, and flats combination. It sounds like a lot, but if you actually think about it, it's a pretty simple look. You don't want to go overboard with bright tights and bright leg warmers, but that's probably a given. I would say go with neutral shorts, like black or gray, black tights (or any other neutral...I would stay away from white, though) then bright leg warmers. If you have neutral leg warmers, go with bright tights. If you're feeling wild, you can try coordinating bright tights-and-leg-warmers. As for the flats, anything goes. Do what you want.

Don't be afraid of pairing the leg warmers with just shorts. Try them with dresses, skinny jeans...just go full on 80's...

Keep posting questions, I love answering.

Longer post will follow.

Love.

I am such a sucker for cute room furnishings. Urban Outfitters has the greatest things for your room- they are all colorful and fun, but some with that vintage Victorian feel that I love as well. I know this is a fashion blog, but this is fashion for your room, so enjoy.

Photobucket
I never knew I could love a pillow so dearly. Paris...random birds...what else could you ask for?

Photobucket
More very cool pillows. I love this pink and green vintage-looking matchbox pillow. You gotta love the elephant...

Photobucket

Ahhh....love.

Photobucket
Last pillow! VERY cute. This would match my current pillow/bed attire perfectly, I must get it.

Photobucket
How cool would it be to have a rainbow candelabra in your room? Yeah. Very.

Photobucket
A fainting couch is so glamorous, and perfectly fitted into the Marie Antoinette era. I love this in the purple velvet, it's so fabulous.

Photobucket

I love this collage wall art, it adds a unique touch to any space.

Photobucket

This I Love You wall mural is so cool.

Photobucket

I love the Japanese Peony bedspread, it's so colorful and girly.

Photobucket

This platform floor cushion could be used for so many things- a table, "bed", etc.

Photobucket

I love these types of mirrors, so vintage-chic.

Photobucket

These are adorable. Enough said.

Week's Worth of Outfits

Yes, I realize I'm a tad bit late, since I said WWOO would be up last week. This week has been so busy for me, but now it's winter break, finally, and I can commit to the blog...

I'm testing a new format for WWOO, the collage-type thing, but if you guys like the old better, just tell me.

MONDAY:

This outfit starts off with this Catherine Malandrino sweater dress. I love this geometric pattern and the fall colors. It's really versatile and can be worn in many seasons. Add this bangle from Forever 21. It has a vintage feel, and I love it. The shoes are these fabulous chocolate brown suede boots from Urban Outfitters. These are also really versatile, and everyone needs some boots like these.

TUESDAY:

This is one of my favorites here, and the most like my style. Start with a simple cobalt blue tee from Urban Outfitters, and layer on that gorgeous black and white vest, also from Urban Outfitters. The piping is so adorable. The Ever gray skinny jeans are simple and chic. Add a stack of blue, black, and white geometric bangles from Nordstrom. They are by Lee Angel. The shoes are the great navy and black patent Marc by Marc Jacobs flats.

WEDNESDAY:

This outfit is another one of my favorites. It starts with a gorgeous Twelfth Street blouse. It is so feminine with the ruffles and deep red color. Layer on a Sara Berman for Lux jacket from Urban Outfitters. I love this jacket- the covered buttons and cropped shape makes it so wearable and versatile. These gray Rag & Bone jeans are so clean and crisp looking. Finish with the classic Salvatore Ferragamo Varina flat in white patent from Nordstrom.

THURSDAY:

I love the idea of a simple black dress stepped up with tons of color. Start with this Lux slouchy dress from Urban Outfitters. Layer on a bright purple Vince cardigan from Intermix, a great color and so unique. Add a bright blue Lee Angel bracelet that is pretty versatile. Finish with vibrant yellow suede J.Crew flats.

FRIDAY:
I love these two feminine colors paired together. This bright pink sweater from Anthropologie is so adorable, I love the contrast of the pink with white buttons. Pair it with cobalt blue denim shorts by Anlo- these are so unique, I love them. Add black opaque tights by Sparkle & Fade and fabulous metallic pointed toe flats from Urban Outfitters.

SATURDAY:

This outfit is both edgy and feminine with rocker-style colors black and gold. Start with the black and gold metallic striped tee from J.Crew that I put in my Wishlist. Add an adorable leather jacket by Vince. I love this feminine, cardigan-style shape, but done up in an edgy leather. Put on the Hudson dark skinny jeans next, and finally, add these adorable Kate Spade ruffly gold flats. Love it.

SUNDAY:

Finish the week with this laid-back but stylish outfit for Sunday. Start with a simple white tee from Urban Outfitters. Add a bright canary yellow Jamison sweater. I love this shade of yellow. Yellow can be scary and make you look like a banana or a duck, but this light tone is perfect. Put on some simple, chic jeans from Citizens of Humanity. Add a sparkly gold Rachel Leigh bangle, then red suede twisted flats from Urban Outfitters.

Latest Obsessions

I've been looking around, and I have been eyeing many items. Lately I've been noticing basics that are stepped up with color or details. I have been meaning to pick up some bright colored American Apparel tights in red, purple, and navy, so those are definitely on my list.

Here's what I'm looking out for--

Ahh...I love the yellow and white printed flats, they are so 60's adorable. I love the t-shirt too, the metallic stripes make it so cool. This is really versatile too. The sequin scarf on the second row is one of my favorites on here. It is so glamorous and chic, it makes the simple winter scarf so sophisticated. The last shorts are also fabulous, I love the graphic print. They would look amazing over black tights.

Love all of the colored tights, they are so unique and add a burst of color in any outfit. I love an all black outfit with extreme bright tights. The knit vest is adorable, in my opinion. It's great for layering and looks so comfortable.

Of course I had to have some Urban Outfitters in here.I LOVE the purple and gray grandpa cardigans- so cute and effortless. I also love the lime green V-neck sweater. It would be great to add color to a plain winter outfit. This color green looks adorable with gray and black. There are so more colors of this plain tee, and I love the orange. I always love simple colored tees, they are a great base for an outfit that you can add on to.

Ooh...very short post. Week's Worth of Outfits is finally coming tomorrow and my 100th post is really soon... Get excited!!!

The Gossip Girls

I know so many other fashion blogs are doing it, but I couldn't help trying my hand at making a few outfits for the girls of Gossip Girl, one of the most amazing shows in the history of modern television. First up...

Blair Waldorf::

Blair's style is preppy, classic, and conservative, with a hint of Audrey Hepburn inspiration. Blair is always pristinely put together and done up. She wears tons of headbands, opaque tights, bows, and ruffles, and is very feminine. Her main colors in her wardrobe are navy, red, white, and black, with occasional appearances of yellow and green.

Here's a perfect Blair outfit for a chic daytime. Click the picture to enlarge.

Serena van der Woodsen::

Serena's style is much less put-together than Blair's, and a lot more effortless chic. Serena's look has a Kate Moss inspiration. Serena always makes her uniform more unique (second picture) with accessories like slouchy sweater vests, skinny ties, bangles, and boots. Serena has a natural, earthy feel to all her outfits and she never looks like she's trying too hard.

Here's a Serena outfit for pretty much anywhere. Again, click the picture.

Jenny Humphrey::

Jenny doesn't have as much money as the Upper East Side girls she hangs out with, but she is just as fashionable as them. Her look is definitely vintage-inspired, with tons of bright colors and interesting details. Jenny loves vintage-inspired coats and jackets, vivid bright colors, and dresses of all kinds. Her style is feminine and vintage-y, with quirky details that always make the outfit unique.

Here's a nighttime Jenny outfit, something she would wear while out with her Upper East Side friends.

Clones

While browsing Urban Outfitters, I found this Silk Portia Dress, which bore a STRONG resemblance to a dress I remembered from the ChloƩ Spring 2007 collection. There is almost no difference between these two, and I love them both.

The Silk Portia Dress. I love how the stylist paired the ruffled, frilly dress with the patterned tights, it reminds me of Blair Waldorf's outfit for the brunch, where she paired the eyelet dress with crocheted tights. Gorgeous.

The ChloƩ dress. It's a perfect match. Love love love.

Welcome to the 60's

The 60's has always been one of my favorite fashion decades. It was most definitely one of the most revolutionary where fashion is concerned. The miniskirt, hot pants, and colored & patterned tights were created by the amazing Mary Quant, bright colors and patterns were widely worn, and the "mod" look was all around. Skirt hemlines dramatically rose and wild colors were everywhere. Ready to wear was introduced by Pierre Cardin, Mary Quant created the youth movement, Yves Saint Laurent was opened, and Emilio Pucci made his first clothes for the chic jet setter with his colorful, psychedelic prints. The 60's inspired look has always been in, and more than ever right now. Here's what to look for when you're going for a 60's look-

The Trends:

- mod
- short skirts
- crazy colorful prints
- bright colors
- tall boots
- babydoll dresses
- mirrored detail
- Mary Janes
- shift dresses
- patent leather
- tights

The Icons:

- Twiggy

Twiggy, the first "waif" supermodel, pretty much created the mod style, with jumpers, minidresses, and bright tights. She was sophisticated and classy with her style, and always looked chic.

- Edie Sedgwick

Edie's style was thrown-together, effortless chic and glamorous, big earrings, bold eye makeup and opaque black tights. She had dramatic accessories, mod minidresses with an eclectic edge, and her signature black tights with boots and heels.

Factory Girl, the movie about Edie's life, starring Sienna Miller...

- Jacqueline Kennedy

The most elegant and glamorous first lady there ever was, Jackie Kennedy was the epitome of style in the 1960's. Her style signatures were her oversized sunglasses, while all of her outfits had clean lines and soft, simple colors. She always looked impeccably put together, even in her jeans and a sweater (second picture). I highly recommend the book 'Jackie Style'.

- Mary Quant

The fashion designer who revolutionized 60's fashion. As I said before, the miniskirt, hot pants, AND patterned tights were her lovely creations. Her clothes were part of the Swinging London era, the perfect clothes for chic Londoners with a quirky style.

Now onto what you've all been waiting for- the clothes. 60's inspired is everywhere, and I found the greatest 60's-esque clothing- hope you enjoy.

This bright color paired with the simple buttons gives off a definite mod vibe. It's by Jill Stuart, who, surprisingly, had a lot of great sixties pieces.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Another gorgeous Jill Stuart dress- everything about this is so 60's-like- the bright color contrast, the button front, and the sleeves.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This Karta dress (Karta is one of the brands where I found tons of amazing pieces that look so 60's, along with Paul & Joe and Jill Stuart) from Intermix is perfect, with the bright print and subtle embellishment.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

A fabulous Karta dress with simple, chic colors and their signature embellishment. The A-line skirt is what makes this dress so adorably sixties.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This simple Juicy Couture shift from Nordstrom is perfect. The two gold buttons are a blend of military-esque and 60's mod.

An elegant navy patent leather Jill Stuart handbag.

These Bing Bang earrings are so Edie Sedgwick- one of her trademarks was her huge earrings.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This sweet Karen Zambos dress is conservative but still so sophisticated and pretty.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

More Karta! I love this bright green (so glad to see a return of this- seriously, I haven't seen green in forever!) studded dress, especially paired with the black tights.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Mary Janes were big in the 60's, and these fleshy pink patent Manolo Blahniks are a more modernized version.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

A classic mod style- the jumper. This MICHAEL Michael Kors one from Nordstrom is so adorable- I love the gray wool.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

In the 60's, you had to have your patent leather boots. These white Paul & Joe ones are so Parisian chic in the sixties.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This purple Paul & Joe mini is so 60's Paris- the circular pockets are adorable!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The turquoise is fabulous, too.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This vintage Saks Fifth Avenue dress from Mirror Mirror Vintage is amazing- I love the colors and the simple A-line silhouette.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This Karen Zambos dress is metallic, but has the effect of being mirror-covered, a big trend in the 60's. This looks so sleek and cool with black tights.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Another Karta...this cream colored scalloped dress is so Jackie O.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This Tracy Reese dress from Nordstrom has the bright color blocking of the 60's dresses- it's a more modern version.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

These sleek ivory pumps by Juicy Couture also have a Jackie Kennedy feel to them- they are really sophisticated and elegant.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This cobalt blue Jill Stuart mini is really mod, thanks to the contrasting black buttons.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Love love love this bright red Paul & Joe dress- the tailoring is impeccable, and it looks amazing with tights and ankle boots.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This vintage wool minidress is from the 1960's, from Mirror Mirror Vintage, and is totally adorable. I love the idea of mixing it with bright tights and colorful jewelry to make it more modern.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

THIS IS THE LAST KARTA, I SWEAR!
And I love it. Mixing the mod shape with the modern color is genius.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This turquoise Tibi dress is adorably Parisian-girl-chic, definitely with tights.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

These Jonathan Kelsey ankle boots look great with bright colored tights and a cute minidress for a 60's look.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I love this dove gray Paul & Joe jumper- simple and retro-chic.

Hope you enjoyed.
