Today's profile of designers: Alexander Wang (!!!) , Karen Walker, Boy by Band of Outsiders, Vena Cava, and Alexandre Herchcovitch.

This is a first-ever moment. Alexander Wang using...turquoise? orange? HOT PINK? Yes, this is the same designer who, last season, showed an almost entirely black collection. It's refreshing, but it didn't lose Alexander's signature boyish grungy feel. I loved everything- the tailored turquoise blazer and shorts, the hot pink blazer and orange shorts, the denim shirt over slouchy black pants...ahh. The show felt like it was directed towards an athletic, tough girl who still cared about fashion. One of my favorite looks was the sequined double breasted coat (or dress?).

I was a little surprised by Karen Walker. Her clothes are usually colorful, mixed-up, crazy patterns. This season it was extremely toned down, very minimalist. I had hoped for something a bit more like her last collections, but I still thought this one was great. I loved the first boyish blazer and pants outfit. Although most of the show was simple, she spiced things up by adding patterns, like the leopard print that I actually like, and that last floral top. She let the prints take all the attention by pairing it with unembellished pieces.

I didn't like this one as much as Fall, but it was still undeniably cute. Kirsten Dunst was cast as the face of the lookbook and she was half the reason that made me love it as much as I do. She made all the clothes look totally effortless and like her normal street style. I thought it was a perfect fit. My favorites out of this collection were the first look, with all of the layers, and the last, with the casual acid yellow hoodie paired with a more sophisticated skirt. This was a very easygoing, carefree collection that completely said Spring 09, baby.

Vena Cava's collection had an Egyptian influence, as we saw in the tribal prints in skirts, pants, and dresses. I loved the 70's inspired loose flared pants and silk gowns. A recurring theme in the collection was skinny leather pants, mostly the khaki ones, shown under dresses. The short sleeved leather jacket is delicate, unlike most leather jackets. I want the printed pants...



Alexandre Herchcovitch was mostly a futuristic feminine, with a pixelated floral pattern repeating throughout the show. He also incorporated utilitarian pieces, like the first jumpsuit and the panel of khaki on the third floral dress. I loved the second pink dress, it's adorable and I love the high khaki neckline.

these are working women

For this post, I took 4 jobs that I normally picture when I think of New York occupations. Yes, maybe it's completely stereotypical, but people do have these jobs...With those jobs, I made an outfit for each of them that fits for their occupation and doesn't sacrifice style.

For the lawyer, I was sure to keep everything sophisticated and polished, like a true businesswoman. Nothing could be too showy, flashy, or short. The Moschino blouse looks instantly put together with anything you put it with, and the Camilla and Marc pencil skirt adds some bright color. An Anya Hindmarch bag is demure but still functional and gorgeous. A little bit of subtle color is added in with the Bottega Veneta purple suede pumps.

I was picturing all of the Devil Wears Prada assistants for the fashion writer. Yes, they all have their own style, but I thought this outfit was fitting for lots of them. A feminine Milly bow blouse and a chartreuse pleated skirt from By Malene Birger are the base of the look. A very frilly, romantic start. To add another girly touch, this glittery Marc by Marc Jacobs cuff is perfect. These chunky Chloe heels are walkable and perfect for running errands for a demanding boss :)

The art gallery owner is typically a very stylish one, and I thought of dark and avant garde. I loved the ruffled Bamford jacket, it could be both feminine and hipster-ish. I chose the latter for this outfit. A simple black Splendid t-shirt underneath, and then the standout piece- the Alexander McQueen black sequin pants. These look amazing on the Net-a-Porter mannequin, much better than here, but these definitely take a special person to pull off. If you can, applause to you. The shoes are a minimalist cutout heel by Miu Miu.

For the interior designer, I thought of professional with a little bit more artsy feeling. Like a stepped up, more youthful lawyer. The AKA New York metallic top is so fabulous. I want it right now. Pair it with a simple Vivienne Westwood pencil skirt to draw attention to the top, and then the hot pink patent Louboutin t-straps, which I would do just about anything for.

regrets, annoyance

I read Fashion Robot's post a few minutes ago about people throwing in French words in their conversations and how obnoxious it is. It made me realize how much she was right. Some people who don't even know French are trying to sound better while using them. I once read someone who said "I j'adore ____". Now, I take French, and although I'm not the best student, I know that J'ADORE means I LOVE. So, I I love ___? That's what you're saying...Now it sounds like I'm being a bit hypocritical, considering the name of my blog. I made this a year ago, and I thought I knew about fashion, but I really didn't. Tres Tres Chic? It was from the song by Mocean Worker from The Devil Wears Prada. Pathetic? I think yes. And speaking of chic, a comment from Arabelle said how people overusing the word chic is what annoys her most. This I agree with too, hypocritical as it is. But it really feels like it's the word that everyone uses to try to sound fashionable and stylish. I regret the name of this blog SO MUCH, but I would feel weird changing it. This blog has changed the way I look at style. From these blogs, I realized that my shiny turquoise plastic beaded necklace from Forever 21 was not as cool as I actually thought it was. And I have learned that Tres Tres Chic was not a cutting edge name for a blog.

This post was kind of mindless and rambling, but...I just needed to get it out.

fashion week, part 2

Style.com has posted more collections shown yesterday at NYC Fashion Week, September 5. Today I will be profiling Rag & Bone, Erin Fetherston, Yigal Azrouël, TSE, and Jason Wu.

All of these are marvelous, I want every piece.

Rag & Bone was lovely. It was a mix of hard rock (silver blazer, leather vest, skinny ties) paired with more girly things (tiny florals, nautical stripes, pink ties) These elements are more subtle, at first look its all rock and roll. I want everything in this collection. I loved how they didn't try to make the suit any more feminine, just fitted a men's style suit and made it look perfect.


Erin stuck to her signature of ethereal, angelic looking clothes, only this time she used a bit more color, as opposed to her usual white and silver. These colors were saturated pinks and blues, with iridescent sequined pieces that I adored. The first look I love- a brocade trench coat that perfectly embodies glamour and femininity. She reprises the trench coat in pink on Chanel Iman later in the show. The sequined pieces were fabulous, the color was what made it. The last white dress was beautiful, but I'm sure everyone thought it looked much too Marchesa.


LOVE. Yigal Azrouël's show was as if the models had lived in the clothes for a long time. They looked perfectly worn in and weathered. It was incredibly low-key with fashion-y elements. He paired anoraks with capri pants that didn't look like they belonged on a 7 year old. I loved his mint green 3/4 sleeved dress on the 4th model. It's casual but you could wear it out too. Azrouël didn't just focus on the masculine-style clothes. Structured ruffles and more feminine pieces came at the end of the show (last look).


Known for their fantastic cashmere, TSE did not disappoint this season. I loved the fresh, bright color palette and relaxed silhouettes. They are all versatile pieces that you could wear apart or together. I loved the mix of the same pattern in different colors on the second look, and the color blocked dress on the fourth. I saw even more pants, which I am already seeing as a big trend for spring. This show was mainly feminine, but with some utilitarian details, such as the first jacket and the last shorts.


Jason Wu perfectly captured a confident, stylish Park Avenue woman. It was elegant and powerful with a bit of whimsy. I loved all of the bright pinks and purples he used, as well as the ruffles, pleats, and shimmer. His collection could be seen on a woman of any age, from 25 to 50.

its the most wonderful time of the year

It's that time of year again. Where style.com nearly crashes from us trying to receive coverage of the shows, where the fashion obsessed girls of Blogger furiously type up posts of the same topic, where drooling over designers ensues. It's New York Fashion Week.

The shows today were Elie Tahari, Rachel Roy, Sue Stemp, and Trovata. Not the greatest selection, but hey, it's the first day. I loved Rachel Roy and Sue Stemp, and Trovata was fine. I didn't really like Elie Tahari, but there were a few looks that I liked.

This was my favorite collection of the day. You can't really put a word on it, it's kind of a mix between ethnic mixed with modern colors and materials. If you look at the rest of the collection, it's many different feelings. There's ruffly white dresses and a matching blazer, a white long sleeved dress with French phrases stitched on it, everything. The evening gowns were gorgeous too, so simplistic but elegant and never boring. (And would you look at those black and white shoes, 1st and 5th pictures?)


Sue Stemp's was another one of my favorites. This one you can easily put a name to. Completely romantic and sophisticated, provocative while still being tasteful. I love the first three looks the most- the periwinkle-colored dress with the structured neckline, the purple sheer top and the tulip skirt, and the white romper with the black embroidery. Everything was so feminine and perfect for spring.


Trovata's collections are always laid-back and minimal. I loved all the slouchy rolled up pants and gingham. The matching jacket and shorts could work for someone confident enough to pull it off, but if not, the jacket and shorts could function alone too. And how cute is that navy romper? It gave such an effortless vibe, it really said spring even with the simple color palette.


Now this was one of my least favorites, as I said before. These were the only looks that I really liked. Style said it perfectly- "It felt rather more Resort than Spring. It's easy to picture bandeau tops, swim briefs, and ankle-tied harem pants at an island retreat, but in an office? Not so much." The first look is so cute, though, I love the combination of colors and layering for spring. I also love the last dress and all of the rich color.

a plan

So here's what's going to happen. Since school uniforms take up the majority of my week (of course) and I hate to say I don't change into terribly exciting outfits while loading up on Ancient Mesopotamia, I have decided to just do outfit posts on the weekends. It will not be the actual outfit I wore that day (I will verify if it is) but instead the outfits that I like to wear (i.e. wore in the summer, on breaks, etc.) or just have concocted. Was this nonsensical? Do you understand?

MERE HOURS UNTIL FASHION WEEK

bleached denim

Ever since Kirsty Lee debuted her acid-washed/tie-dyed/bleached jeans here, I had really, really wanted to make some of my own. I have no good jeans right now, so I took some old black Uniqlo cutoffs and decided to bleach them.

My project resulted in these. Please excuse the lasso skills (or lack thereof).

Now they don't look as great as the others, but I'm pretty happy with them. These used to be very black, like ink black. I had hoped they would be more black with white splotches, but that's bleach for you. They are TINY, Daisy Duke-like shorts, so I will definitely be wearing tights with them. Very Erin Wasson. I'm going to love these in the fall with a blazer and basic t-shirt...
